Lawn care in winter

When Winter Hits, Lawn Care is Not Over

Finally, the time has come when you don’t have to keep the lawn mowed or weed whacked. Temperatures have dropped and winter is here. But what can you do over the winter to preserve your lawn blanketed by low temperatures and snow? Even though grass may stop growing in the winter and you may think your maintenance job is on hold, Lawn Care in Boise can be just as important as taking care of your lawn in warmer weather. After putting on your coat and grabbing some tools and products, your lawn can be maintained and nourished in no time.

One method of Lawn Care in Boise that can help preserve it for the spring is fertilization. Purchase a fertilizer spreader, which looks like a bucket with a handle and wheels. The fertilizer is poured into the spreader, and the spreader will distribute the fertilizer onto the lawn as you push it. Always make sure you are spreading the right amount so you do not kill the grass. Fertilizing will keep the grass healthy in the colder weather.

Another strategy for maintaining Lawn Care in Boise is to aerate the lawn with a spade. A spade, which you can purchase online or in a hardware store, looks like a shovel and is used to air out the lawn so seeds can enter the soil and roots can thrive. If you want to lessen some of the labor, you can find mechanical aerators, as well.

You may not know that there are grass seeds for different seasons, and it is important to purchase cool weather grass seed to spread in your lawn in winter. Thankfully, you don’t need to buy a separate spreader for the seed, because the fertilizer spreader will work well for this job. Keep in mind that the more seeds that fall in one place results in a higher concentration of grass, so focus on applying smoothly. Rake over the seeds and water the lawn regularly.

You may have items covering your lawn, especially piles of leaves from the previous season. It is essential to keep the grass as clear as possible and remove leaves or other objects on top of the grass. Make sure that the grass is cut before winter arrives, but that it is tall enough to protect the lawn. With diligence and following the proper procedures, your lawn can be preserved during winter and enjoyed when temperatures increase again.

TESTIMONIALS
Diamond Lawns started working on our yard last year. The yard had been neglected for years before we moved here. Almost the whole lawn was thistle, and there were also Dandelion, clover, and wild violets and very little grass. In one season the lawn has been transformed to beautiful green grass and no thistle or other weeds.
